Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review

The tech major Samsung has recently paid much attention to its mid-range phones. The range mainly includes Samsung F-Series and M-Series mobile phones. Samsung has launched Galaxy M34 5G in India to keep up with the latest trends. The price starts at around Rs. 18,999. While a couple of alternatives are available at this price, If you’re looking for Samsung’s reliability, the M34 5G, which was recently announced, might be a good option.

Nowadays, many phones in the same price bracket include 67W/80W chargers, an adapter inside the box, a protective case, and more. In this scenario, can Samsung’s Galaxy M34 be a success? We plugged into our Samsung Galaxy M34 5G for a few days to find the solution and documented the results in this review.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G comes with a 120Hz refresh rate AMOLED display, a 50MP camera equipped with OIS, and a battery of 6000mAh. We tested it as a primary device for a couple of days, and we suggest you look into our review to find out what we think about it.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Unboxing

Like all mid-range models from Samsung, the M34 is packaged in an unmarked paper-like box. In the upper part of the box, there is a picture of the Galaxy M34, while the back side contains the key specifications. There isn’t an adapter in the box, making it highly sleek. The box is packed with

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review: Design

Samsung has made the design of Galaxy M34 5G to keep the design of Samsung Galaxy M34 5G extremely minimalistic and easy to use. The camera module in the back is reminiscent of Galaxy S23 Series, just like other Samsung phones released in 2023. The only distinction is that the lens of the Galaxy M34 5G camera is more exaggerated than other smartphones. Its rear display is constructed of polycarbonate, which doesn’t appear luxurious in any way. However, it is solid and durable. The frame is not made of metal because the side panels are made from plastic and blend into the display easily. The shiny back panels look great. However, it is a magnet for smudges due to its surface. We’ve got a Midnight Blue variant for review reasons, and the back panel smudges often. However, getting rid of the smudges was a breeze too.

After we have discussed the back panel, let’s discuss the display on the device. It has a Samsung AMOLED panel which is good for this price; however, it could be more appealing in design. The screen has a waterdrop feature for selfie cameras, and the bezels around the chin are extremely heavy. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection which is excellent.

It’s on the larger side (8.8mm) but extremely easy to hold. The majority of other phones at this price point are sleeker; however, there is always a worry about them falling from your grip. The M34 5G, without a protective case, did not feel like the device could fall off the palm. Samsung Galaxy M34 5G features Samsung’s sturdy construction quality.

Samsung’s Galaxy M34 5G has excellent build quality but a Average design. It could be a viable option if you’re looking for a durable device.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review: Display

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G sports an impressive 6.5-inch Super AMOLED LCD. It has full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. High refresh rates ensure smooth, silky visuals.

The display is suitable for angles of view, and the colors are vivid and precise. The brightness is adequate too. One thousand nits peak brightness ensures that images are transparent outdoors. It also has Samsung Vision Booster technology that alters the brightness and saturation levels depending on the conditions.

Content consumption is an excellent way to get great visuals, but the lack of HDR could be better. Widevine L1 supports watching HD content. I wouldn’t say I liked the waterdrop notch. However, this is dependent on each individual preference. For security, a Gorilla Glass 5 protects the display from accidental drops and scratches.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review: Camera

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G features three cameras on the back. It comes with a 50MP primary camera with OIS, an ultrawide 8MP camera, and a 2MP macro lens. Although the macro lens is standard, the 8MP ultrawide camera is not available at this price.

Photos taken using 50MP primary are accurate in color and rich in texture. The images are full of fine details, and their dynamic ranges are adequate. Sometimes, colors seem too bright, as in the photo below. The sky wasn’t as blue as it was looking to appear. All in all, photos made using the camera’s primary one were okay.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review: Performance

An Octa-core Samsung Exynos 1280 chipset powers Samsung Galaxy M34 5G. It’s 5nm and has two central Cortex A78 cores with 2.4GHz clock speed and other 6 Cortex A55 cores with 2.0GHz time. The version we received came with 6GB of RAM, paired with Samsung’s RAM Plus feature, allowing up to 6GB of additional RAM. The storage capacity is 128GB, and the option to increase the storage using a microSD slot.

Given the price of the phone and the benchmark results, the results of our tests are good. We tried this Galaxy M345G phone for a few minutes, and the phone can handle everyday tasks efficiently. For instance, it can scroll through feeds on social media and simultaneous use of apps, streaming content, light gaming, and many more. I’ve discussed moderate gaming here because it can play heavy games such as COD and Asphalt 9, but the device gets hot after about 30 minutes of playing. Frame rates begin to decrease, which means gamers must play games with moderate graphics and frames.

The results of benchmarking are listed below.

Regarding the software, Samsung Galaxy M34 5G runs Android 13 and Samsung One Ui 5.1 out of the box. The OS has a wide range of customizable options, and the interface is straightforward and user-friendly. Samsung promises to release four significant Android updates for the Galaxy M34 5G, whereas most other phones provide 3 or 2 updates in this price bracket. This means that Galaxy M34 is slightly better than its rivals. The only drawback is the amount of bloatware that comes pre-installed on the phone. It can be removed according to your needs.

Samsung Galaxy M34 5G Review: Battery

In terms of battery capacity, Samsung’s mid-ranger phones are always impressive. The Galaxy M34 5G is no less. It comes with a massive battery of 6000mAh under the hood that provides a solid backup battery. For a typical user, the battery lasts more than two days. If you’re a heavy user, charge your smartphone before leaving home, and you will only need to recharge it once it gets dark.

My use included gaming, streaming content, official work, reading, calling, and browsing social media applications such as Reels on Instagram and many more. Despite all this use and more, my Samsung Galaxy M34 5Geasily lasts two days.

The areas in which Samsung needs to catch up are the charging process and the need for an adapter in the box. The device has a bare 25W of fast wireless charging on the latest device, meaning it takes about two minutes to go from zero% to 100 percent. Two hours is a long time in the current fast-paced world.

Samsung Galaxy M34 review: Verdict Should you buy it?

The Galaxy M34 5G from Samsung comes with several great features and minor issues everywhere. The battery life is superior to many phones at this price. Samsung’s AMOLED display, which has a 120Hz refresh rate and solid build quality, are two compelling reasons to purchase this phone. The camera is also good and can meet the requirements of the typical user.

Certain aspects require one to consider a second thought before purchasing this device. This includes a lackluster low-light camera, a waterdrop notch, and tons of unnecessary software. However, it’s one of the very few smartphones that come with 4 years of updated software, five years of security updates, and Samsung’s dependable service.

If you’re in the market for an affordable smartphone with a price tag of 20k that’s durable, sturdy, meets your everyday needs, and lets you enjoy yourself, then the Samsung Galaxy M34 5G is an excellent option. There are many other options if you’re looking for the most powerful camera and an elegant design.
