Redmi 12 5G Review
Redmi introduced its first Number series phone back in 2014. It has made it far since the time it was launched. The company has created an enviable niche in the marketplace by providing new features to consumers seeking a cheap phone. The newly launched Redmi 12 5G is a new world for smartphone owners looking to purchase a brand-new phone without putting a dent in their pockets.
As the name suggests, it is a Redmi 12 5G with 5G connectivity. It allows its users to enjoy 5G to the fullest and affordably. It also comes with its Snapdragon 4G Gen2 processor and looks very impressive on paper.
With all the hype about it, can this Redmi 12 5G perform in terms of day-to-day performance?
Redmi 12 5G: The Design, as well as Display
Redmi has been working hard on their Redmi 12 5G’s design since it has stunning glass on the back that is not often seen in this price bracket. The color I was given for my review is Moonstone Silver, and apart from this, there are two more colors available: Jade Black and Pastel Blue.
When we talk about The Moonstone Silver color is a stunning back panel with rainbow shades when you look at it closely. The Crystal finish can entice many people, and I love that it’s not too flashy but visible. This means that the phone is just enough elegant and attractive gloss.
However, the possibility of streaks is present on the back panel but will not be apparent when using this color. To the left of the top, there is an infinite deco of the camera which means that the brand has dropped the box-like, high-end camera module and has instead gone for a simple design.
There’s a primary camera, a secondary camera, and one LED flash. The sensors feature metallic edges that elevate the overall appearance. On the bottom, you will find the Redmi 5G branding, which perfectly complements its Moonstone Silver color.
I also had an opportunity to glance briefly at the other two color choices on the phone. Pastel Blue, in my view, is a standout and should be the one you choose if you are an enthusiast of pastel colors all over and want an iPhone that will give you a soothing and cool feel.
To the left on the left, you will find a power button that can also function as a fingerprint sensor. I like the button’s position because it’s super easy to access even though the phone features an enormous display. The Display is flat, but the edges are round, which is why it can be used for extended periods. But, because the edges are rounded, the phone could slip out of your hands. For a better grip, I recommend using the cover for the back that Xiaomi offers inside the box.
At the very top features the 3.5mm connector, which is a great feature for any smartphone that is budget-friendly, and to the bottom, you will find a Type C charging port and a set of speakers.
From the front, you’ll get a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with a punch-hole notch, which creates a chic look and allows for a wider display area. The bezels are thin on three sides. However, the chin of the phone has thick bezels that might not be appealing to certain people.
The Display has an adaptive refresh rate of 90Hz, making the phone’s operation appear smooth and swift. I read various stories on this phone, and my experience was exceptional. I also watched a few OTT films and shows and had no issues with them. However, the Display can be prone to smudges; this is why purchasing a screen protector is recommended when you first have your hands on the phone.

Redmi 12 5G: Power and Performance
The phone’s main feature, as per me the performance, impressed me the most. The phone is the first to feature its Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor capabilities, and you will feel it in the limelight as soon as you turn it on. Apps respond fast without delays, the performance is swift and smooth, and it is easy to change between different applications. I had around 22 applications open simultaneously and could easily switch between the two.
The phone runs MIUI 14 based on Android 13 right out of the box. The overall interface is top-quality. The 5G connectivity works well with no problems in my use. Oh, and the MIUI dialler has returned, which many users were waiting for.
The battery should last a full day and a half if your use is light. When you only use it lightly, the battery can last two days or more. I used the phone to work early in the morning and was required to recharge it the following day.
When gaming, it was evident that the battery went from 92 percent to 78 percent after just 45 minutes. Therefore, if you intend to play for a long time, I suggest you keep the charger in your bag.
The battery can take longer to recharge. It took approximately two hours and fifteen minutes to recharge the phone between 0 and 100 percent.
Redmi 12 5G Experience gaming and entertainment
If you’re an avid gamer on your phone, this might be an excellent choice based on the kind of games you enjoy. The phone didn’t warm up for simple games such as Candy Crush and Subway Surfers and provided the best gaming experience. However, it did get warm when playing more demanding games such as BGMI and COD Mobile. This is a fair thing considering the cost. However, there were no lags when playing BGMI and COD Mobile when I played the games with the default settings.
I also watched shows such as Mom, How I Met Your Mother, The Good Doctor, and many more on the phone and was satisfied with the overall experience. Since the phone comes with only one speaker, the sound was coming out from only one direction and was noticeable. The sound quality, however, was good, and even though it wasn’t loud enough, even at the maximum volume, it wasn’t bad either.
Redmi 12 5G Camera
The camera is a factor that matters to many and can be the deciding factor when it comes to a phone. The Redmi 12 5G has a decent overall camera capable of capturing great images when the lighting conditions are ideal. The primary camera has a resolution of 50 megapixels, and the second camera is 2-megapixel. Additionally, the phone has an 8-megapixel front camera.
Redmi 12 5G: Do you need to purchase it?
Should you purchase this Redmi 12 5G? This is a perfect choice if you’re under tight budget restrictions and require an Android phone with 5G connectivity, excellent overall performance, and quality cameras.
